DAIRY COTTAGE
Bourne End, Buckinghamshire
Private Residential
At Jeffrey Jordan Architects, we were appointed to design a sensitive extension and reconfiguration of Grade II listed property located in Bourne End. The objective was to modernise the property while preserving its historical significance.

The existing layout is open plan on the ground floor, with two bedrooms sharing a bathroom on the first floor. The property is smaller compared to other dwellings on the estate. Our proposal includes a single-storey rear extension to enlarge the living space and improve the ground floor layout. The extension is designed to be subservient to the original building, with black timber cladding that provides a rustic feel and contrast with the traditional elements of the existing structure.

A fully glazed link separates the two elements, offering a clear distinction between the modern extension and the historic part of the property. This feature preserves the focal point of the original building while creating a light and airy connection between the two spaces.

The design also respects the property’s significant features, such as the exposed stop-chamfered spine beam, by making minimal alterations to the ground floor layout. We oversaw both the planning and technical design, ensuring the project meets modern living standards while maintaining the property’s heritage.
