Do I need planning permission?

Building works or making alterations to land or property typically requires planning permission. However, there is a category of developments exempt from this requirement, known as permitted development, especially concerning extensions to existing dwellings.

It is crucial to verify whether planning permission is necessary before commencing any work, as regulations may change. Properties generally possess permitted development rights by default, but these rights can be revoked by Local Councils.

For those thinking about improvements to a residential property and unsure about the need for planning permission, we recommend visiting the Home Improvement Projects page on the Planning Portal, or alternatively get in contact with us and we'll provide you with advice.
